Biography

Dmytro Serhiiovych Monatyk was born on 1 April 1986 in Lutsk. His father worked at an aircraft engine factory and also manufactured foam rubber. His mother was a secretary at the city council. The family later opened their own business. An ordinary family in an ordinary city.

Dance from childhood — not as a hobby but as a way of thinking and moving through space. This connection between body and music remained MONATIK's defining characteristic: not just a singer who dances, but a dancer for whom music and movement are one thing.

2008 — auditioned for Star Factory 2. Didn't get in. But that same year Natalia Mohylevska noticed the young dancer and invited him to her ballet for the concert programme Real O. That was the turning point. He moved to Kyiv — auditions, rehearsals, rented flats. Young, ambitious, still unknown.

2009 — formed his first musical collective Monatique and gave two concerts in his hometown Lutsk. In parallel he passed an audition for the D'arts ballet company and worked there for two years. Funk and soul as the musical foundation.

Married to Iryna Demycheva since 2007; they met at a Lutsk club. Wedding in 2013 — no guests, just the two of them, went to a restaurant. Sons: Platon (2015), Danyla (2017), Leon (December 2024).

Path to his own music

2011 — first solo track TayUletayu. Video shot on a regular mobile phone. The first step into his own music.

2012 — wrote 40 Gradusov for Svitlana Loboda. August 2012, the beginning of a long collaboration. Own tracks Vozdukh, TerorizyrU.Et, Vazhno. Invited to perform on X-Factor. Held a casting for his own ballet, selected 4 dancers, toured Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.

2013 — wrote Soboy for Eva Bushmina, launching her solo career. Klavishi with Lutsk rapper KOVALERO. 8 November 2013 — Usmikhayuchys with the motto "Live, love, fight."

2014 — video V Luchshem Svete and first Ukrainian-language track Mozhe Vzhe Dosyt — an anti-war song released for Independence Day. First major tour Seichas. 12 December 2014 — solo concert in Kyiv and debut album release.

Discography

Soundtrack Segodnіashneho Dnya / S.S.D. (December 2014) — debut album. Usmikhayuchys immediately in rotation.

Zvuchyt / Sounds (25 May 2016) — second album, 16 tracks. Kruzhyt — the defining hit. Tyshe feat. Anna Sedakova, Mokraya feat. Quest Pistols Show.

LOVE IT Rhythm (13 April 2019) — third album, 18 tracks + INTRO and OUTRO. Double platinum. YUNA Best Album, Best Concert Show — for the NSC Olimpiyskyi stadium show. Singles 2020-2021: vecherInochka — 12 million views; 34.9 million YouTube views across all of 2020. Zazhyhat/JoMo (2021, directed by Tanya Muino). Stari Fotohrafiyi — a cover of the Скрябін (Skryabin) song.

Vichno Tantsiuiucha Liudyna / Forever Dancing Person (9 September 2025) — fourth album, 32 tracks. Collaborations with OTOY, KAZKA, Phil it, ROXOLANA, DOROFEEVA, Alina Pash, KOLA, Volodymyr Dantes, Durnyev. Includes if you know what i mean, Vichno Tantsiuiucha Liudyna, RytmoLove, Nazavzhdy, Pro Charivnu, 127 feat. KOLA.

NSC Olimpiyskyi and the "pop king" status

The LOVE IT Rhythm stadium show at NSC Olimpiyskyi in 2019 was a turning point — not only for MONATIK but for the entire Ukrainian music industry. He became the first pop artist to fill that stadium. Broadcast on 1+1, YUNA Best Concert Show.

Then a major world tour. Concerts in Spain, Cyprus, Germany, France, UAE, Kazakhstan. Tour of the US and Canada: Toronto, New York, Miami, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles. "Pop king" — the designation that stuck after this show.

Eurovision 2017

May 2017 — MONATIK opened the first semi-final of Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv with the English version of Kruzhyt — Spinning. The performance became one of the most discussed moments of the competition among fans and European media. Spinning trended on YouTube from day one.

Television

Voice. Kids — mentor from 2016, led his student to victory. Voice of the Country — mentor. Dancing with the Stars — judge from 2017.

Full-scale war and charitable work

On 24 February 2022 MONATIK was in Barcelona with his family. He returned. From April 2022 — charity tour Good Evening! We Are from Ukraine with other artists. ArtOborona united 20 cities, raised more than 20 million hryvnias for children and families from de-occupied and front-line areas. MONATIK Corporation allocated millions of hryvnias for medicines and essential supplies for the military, and grants to young talents — musicians, artists, animators.

20 April 2022 — Russia banned him from entry for 50 years.

He performed for children in the Okhmatdyt bomb shelter during mass shelling. Visited wounded defenders in Lviv. Gave concerts for soldiers, border guards, medical workers and police.
